Waiting on the Lord

In studying the passages on waiting on the Lord recently I noticed something interesting. The emphasis in the Old Testament passages on waiting isn't so much about what is waiting for us at the end of the waiting period, but on the process of waiting.

When we think about waiting on the Lord we think mostly about the outcome of waiting. But, God is more interested WHAT WE DO in the waiting period. It's in the waiting process the Lord transforms us.

Notice these verses from David on waiting.

Psalm 25:21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee. ~ Here we need integrity and uprightness.

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. ~ Here we need to be of good courage.

Psalm 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

~ Here we rest in the Lord, wait patiently for the Lord and we don't worry.

Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. ~ Here we keep God's way.
