Finishing Your Course
Paul speaks about finishing his course in 2 Timothy 4:1-8. Paul's Concern for five areas in the passage encouraged Paul to be faithful to the end and finish his course.
1 Upcoming Judgement - Paul knew there was a day of judgement in which he would give account to God (1 Cor 3:11-15; 2 Cor 5:10).
2 Sound Doctrine - Paul knew that sound bible teaching was the means of purifying the church and the individual believer (John 17:17; 1 Peter 1:22).
3 Crown of Righteousness - Paul knew there was a reward called the crown of righteousness for him and all those who love and look forward to Christ's appearing (2 Tim 4:8).
4 God's Plan - Paul obeyed God's plan for him and wasn't disobedient to God's heavenly vision for him (Acts 26:19).
5 Care for the Churches - Paul endured afflictions, persecutions and trials for the spread of the gospel and the planting of churches. Paul listed 26 difficulties he endured and and at the end of that list he said he had concern for the churches (2 Cor 11:23-28).
